Analyze a book

Description

This is homework given by my teacher in NSD class, Mr. Jack when I was in NIC, an international college in Japan, to analyze a book called metamorphosis, a short story written by Franz Kafka which was first published in 1915. In this assignment, I considered the main message of Kafka tried to convey and reasoned why I thought that way. I remember the book grossed me out many times and ended with sad consequences. However, since the story was about a deep and ugly part of humans, that was a good opportunity to think about ethics and emotions in people's minds.

Reflection
One of the skills which can be helped develop through this assignment is reading comprehension. That is because to analyze a book, I need to understand the entire contents of the book deeply. Therefore, I tried to do close reading and think about the main message of it. Empathy would be one improved ability because to get the flow of the story and the feelings of the characters, empathy is required. If I were the main character, how would I cope with that situation and I paid attention to the reactions of the characters why they reacted that way, how they would feel as well. These skills would be significant to analyze a book.

Application

What would be helpful in the future by going through this assignment is that I can broaden my horizons. As I read it as if I was the main character, I found a lot of similarities and differences between him and me. I learned many perspectives. It would be supportive in everyday life. For example, the story taught me the effects of money and busyness which may break a happy life and change people's behavior. Therefore, I will pay attention to them to keep a good relationship with friends or coworkers.
