Description

This is a note I prepared for a discussion about gender problems. I did this when I was in NSD class of an international college called NIC. Gender is a hot topic that has been discussed in the modern world. This was a good opportunity to think deeply about LGBTQ+, gender inequality, and the solutions to improve our society for diverse people. The topic I played a role in was discounted. This topic has been brought up as gender inequality and discrimination but it is the problem for transgender people as well. Since those people are only a few people in Japan, Japan has numerous things that should be changed such as the charging system of buffets and gender limitation of hair salons.

Reflection

What I obtained from this activity was not only knowledge about gender but also critical thinking for our society. That is because people hardly think about those problems and they do not try to find odd points of their society as they are not transgender people. I found a lot of things we should improve and the solutions in this discussion. Another skill I got better at is prompt communication skill as it required me to answer questions or share my opinion immediately. Therefore, I organized my thoughts and argued what I thought.

 

Application

This experience is very supportive in my future job as I will get to numerous and more difficult discussions in the future. In that discussion, I got many counterarguments from my classmates. Therefore, I needed to support the argument to defend my opinion. I think it is very important because to get my thoughts trustworthy and great, I should support them with credible and logical reasons. For example, if I drafted a product in a workplace, I may have some critics. In that case, if I could not say anything and just admit what they said, the product would be disappeared even if it is a great product. On top of that, having a good discussion make great ideas as well.
